Bollywood star bowled over by Thais at Trade Fair

SHILLONG: Temperature rose in otherwise cold Shillong as Bollywood star Rohit Roy and television artiste Reshmi Ghose visited the 10th International Shillong Trade Fair which is celebrating ten years of its inception at Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

Rohit Roy who starred in many Bollywood superhits like Shootout at Lokhanwala, Don, LoC Kargil and directed Sanjay Dutt’s production’s Dus Kahaniya visited the fair with Reshmi Ghose famous for her role in superhit soapoperas Kyu Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Karam Apna Apna.

Expressing amazement at the number of foreign participants at the fair Rohit said, "I really congratulate the organizers for bringing so many participants from Thailand with such variety of products".

He jokingly bargained with the owner of Thailand Creation World Wild Wood Co.

Many of the twenty three Thai participants in the Thai pavilion recognized the Bollywood stars and mobbed them for autographs. The owner of Wangkeaw Jewellery (Kanchanburi) Co. Ltd who is displaying varieties of jewelleries at her stall recognized the stars as she confessed watching them on television.

Reshmi Ghose a former Miss India Earth who accompanied Rohit clad in a traditional saree appreciated the beautiful artificial flowers and jewelleries from Thailand.

Both of them promised to return to test Delhi Chaats and Kulfi which has opened outlets at the fair.

10th International Shillong Trade Fair is organized by Industries & Trade Fair Association of Assam ( ITFAA) with the support of Government of Meghalaya and NSIC, Government of India.

Thailand, the main business partner of the trade fair this year has twenty three companies participating in the fair. The Royal Thai Government is participating for the third consecutive year in the International Shillong Trade Fair.

"Some businessmen have express interest in Thai leather products and jewellary We are looking for good people to open Thai outlets in Shillong and other parts of North East India as I understand that our culture and customs are similar," said Payao Sookmak, Director of Technical Matter Group and offiicer Of Export Planning Development ,DEP, Royal Thai Government who is taking care of Thailand Pavilion in the trade fair

Meanwhile the Thai Food Corner with its exclusive traditional sweets Bualoy made of pumpkin, carrot ball, coconut milk and Kanom Buang made of rice powder, eggs, coconut, cream, coco and milk have left foodlovers in Shillong asking for more.

People are also making a beeline for chicken and pork served with Green Curry, Spicy Soup, Rice Noodles and vegetables made in traditional Thai style.

New Kasornbua of Thailand who is running the food stall is very happy with the response." I think I should open a cooking school here as many people are asking me to teach them to make the sweet dishes," said a very busy but beaming Kasornbua while serving a group of school girls.
