Mysore, Feb 25 (PTI) The chant 'Jai Ho' that has become a popular refrain in the country after the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' swept eight Oscars, has a Mysore connection with city lad Vijay Prakash lending his voice to chant the words.
It was Prakash who chanted those two magic words that had an awesome effect when it reverberated in the packed Kodak theatre in Los Angeles with Hollywood's 'Who is Who' listening enraptured to the ancient Indian chant.
Prakash, who dropped out from an engineering college in pursuit of his passion music, was in for a pleasant surprise when the Mozart from Chennai A R Rahman asked him to chant the words 'Jai Ho' for the now Oscar-winning score, Prakash's father Ramasesha, living in Mysore, told PTI.
Ramasesha, recalling those cherished moments when they sat glued to the TV watching the Oscar award function, said Prakash spoke to his family to inform them about the prestigious award the song had won.
Ramasesha said Prakash had a "magnificent obsession" with music right from childhood, nothing surprising for a boy who hails from a family where music runs; Ramasesha and wife Lopamudra are vocalists and exponents of Carnatic vocal music.
His wife is also a musician while brother Phaneender is a theatre artist. Prakash's craving for music saw him pack his bags and drop a future in engineering to leave for Mumbai in 1995 to pursue a career in music. PTI
