Music of 'Gulaal' is very conventional: Piyush Mishra

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) Acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap's upcoming film 'Gulaal' is a tribute to legendary lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and so the music is also very conventional, says music director Piyush Mishra.
"We have tried to create the music era of 60s and 70s and as the film is the tribute the great poet, people can expect some great compositions this time," the music director says.

"The film revolves around conflict of contemporary India trying to break the shackles of its past and is based on a song from Guru Dutt's "Pyaasa", Yeh mehlon, yeh takhton, yeh taajon ki duniya'," says Mishra, who is also the lyricist of the film.

Slated for release of March 13, the film stars Kay Kay Menon, Deepak Dobriyal, Aditya Shrivastav, Jessi Randhawa and Seema Rehmani, besides newcomers like Raja Chaudhury, Ayesha Mohan and Abhimanyu Singh.

"There are eight songs in the album and two of them are of seven and half minutes. The songs and scenes complement each other and music in the film takes the story forward while keeping the fast moving plot intact," he adds.

Mishra is also an actor, lyricist, script and dialogue writer, theatre director and Hindi playwright. He made his film debut with Mani Ratnam's 'Dil Se' in 1998. PTI
