I am not capable enough to compete with Big B, says Aamir

Mumbai, Jun 30 (PTI) Two big films--Aamir Khan''s upcoming home production ''Delhi Belly'' and megastar Amitabh Bachchan''s ''Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap''--are slated to hit the screens tomorrow but the actor-producer says he does not consider Big B as competition.

"I think every film has its share of space in the audience. I am a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan and I don''t think I am even on the same platform as him. I don''t sense any competition with him. In fact, I feel I am not capable enough to compete with him," Aamir told PTI.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, ''Delhi Belly'', an adult comedy, stars nephew Imran Khan, Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapur, Poorna Jagannathan and Shenaz Treasuryvala.

''Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap'', produced by AB Corp, stars Amitabh, Prakash Raj, Hema Malini, Raveena Tandon, Charmy Kaur, Minissha Lamba and Sonal Chauhan in the lead roles.

Interestingly, both Aamir and Big B share similar opinion about the fate of their films.

Recently, Big B had said on his blog that, "We make films not to compete or destroy or wage war with our compatriots...Aamir and his production company are much bigger than me and my AB Corp in commercial standing."

To which Aamir had said, "He (Amitabh) is being generous to say so. But I must say I am a huge fan of him. I feel he is much bigger as an actor. He is a bigger brand. I wish ''Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap'' to do ten times better than ''Delhi Belly''."

Imran Khan, Monica Dogra take off their pants

Imran Khan and Monica Dogra has recently shot an ad where they seen taking off their jeans, This is Monica’s debut ad. Monica who debuted with Kiran Rao’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ has also sung the jingle of the advertisement. Imran and Monica shot for a leading denimwear company.

The commercial was shot on the sets of a Mumbai studio. In the ad, Imran plays a shy boy next door while Monica plays a mischievous onlooker at a launderette.

The ad shows that when Imran finds the launderette empty, he takes off his jeans and put it inside the washing machine. The he picks up a book and starts reading waiting for the wash to get finish. The actor doesn’t notice that Monica was noticing him.

Monica decided to play a prank on Imran. She passes off Imran heading to a vending machine, picks out a magazine.

And in all this time, Imran was absorbed in the book.

It's only when he went to the machine to get his pant, he realized that Monica isn't wearing any pants, either.

Big B proposes Rajinikanth for treatment in Singapore

Ever since Tamil superstar Rajinikanth fell sick, Amitabh Bachchan has been in constant touch with the actor's family. It is Mr. Bachchan who recommended Rajinikanth to go to Singapore for treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

A source close to Rajini’s family said, “Rajiniji has been diagnosed with renal failure leading to kidney complications. Rajiniji’s family is indebted to Amitji for recommending the treatment in Singapore.”

Bachchan, who is very close to the superstar, is deeply worried about his present state of health. He said, “I’ve been talking to Rajini and his wife Latha on his condition and on his welfare regularly. Latha wanted to take him out and asked me to recommend a destination. Of the many options that came up, I suggested Singapore.”

Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan have acted together in blockbusters ‘Andha Kanoon’ and ‘Hum’ and they are close buddies.

Osama's last message from beyond the grave

WASHINGTON : Osama bin Laden extols the "winds of change" blowing in the Arab world and asks Muslims around the world to keep the present day revolutions from running out of steam, in a new audio tape apparently recorded a few months before his death.

Al-Qaida has released a new "posthumous" 13-minute audio tape of bin Laden which has an apparent reference to revolts in Tunisia and Egypt and includes still images with an old picture of Osama. This is the first audio message of bin Laden released by al-Qaida after his death.

"The winds of change flew to the square of Tahrir (in Cairo)... and a great revolution was begun," he says in the audio.

Judgment Day: World to end tomorrow?

3 in 4 Americans say stop, yet aid to Pak will flow

WASHINGTON: Nearly three in four Americans (73%) are opposed to sending foreign aid to Pakistan until it demonstrates a deeper commitment to the war against terrorism, an opinion poll here has revealed , even as senior Obama administration officials are making a qualified case for continuing assistance to a shifty ally.

In a clear sign that Washington is swimming against the tide of popular distaste for Pakistan, a Fox News poll released on Wednesday showed 73% of voters against aid to Islamabad, and only 19% saying US should continue funding . The poll, taken after Osama bin Laden was found living outside Islamabad, showed only 16% considered Pakistan as a US ally in the war on terror, against 74% who did not consider Pakistan a friend.

Fox News said the sentiment is widespread, as majorities of Republicans (84%), Democrats (67%) and independents (66%), as well as both men (73%) and women (73 %) say the US should cut off funding to Pakistan. Democrats (22%) are almost twice as likely as Republicans (12%) and independents (12%) to consider Pakistan a strong ally.

The poll results came even as defence secretary Robert Gates and the top US military official Mike Mullen pressed for continued aid in the face of growing Congressional resistance and public opposition. At a Pentagon briefing to discuss US defense budget, question from the US media centered largely around Pakistan's role in the war on terrorism, reflecting widespread antipathy against a once-favored ally.

Gates and Mullen pushed back, suggesting continuing aid to Pakistan was important because of the US entanglement in Afghanistan, among other things. They said they had not seen any evidence that the top Pakistani leadership knew that Osama had been sheltered there, although Gates mysteriously let it hang that "someone" in Pakistan knew.

Gates said Pakistan had been punished sufficiently, saying it had already been "humiliated" by the manner in which US forces had gone in and taken out bin Laden. "If I were in Pakistani shoes, I would say I've already paid a price," he said.

Pakistan's fourth nuclear reactor has India worried

NEW DELHI: Pakistan is focusing on building low-yield, tactical nuclear weapons which it can use in case of skirmishes at the border with India. After disclosures that Pakistan is building its fourth reactor at the Khushab military facility, fresh estimates made by security and intelligence officials here suggest that Pakistan now has the capability to add 8-10 such weapons in its kitty every year.

The figure is likely to go up considerably once the new reactor becomes operational in less than two years. Latest satellite images revealed recently that Pakistan has expedited work on the fourth reactor, a plutonium producing facility.

The news is a surprise, if not shock, to the government here. Its belief, based on assessment by top scientists, was that Pakistan was unlikely to undertake this sort of expansion as it did not have enough uranium.

Pakistan is internationally acknowledged to have a nuclear arsenal of 100 weapons but the recent focus on low-yield, also known as tactical, weapons has become a source of worry for India.

Former chief of joint intelligence committee S D Pradhan, who has closely followed Pakistan's nuclear-weapon program, says Pakistan's desire for such weapons is one of the main reasons for the acceleration of its nuclear program.

"They are following the Chinese model of having low-yield nuclear weapons. Pakistan believes these weapons will provide it a flexible response in case of an escalation with India and allow it to dominate," says Pradhan.

Officials and experts believe Pakistan will use it only in the case of any incursion made by Indian forces into Pakistani territory or what is known as India's cold start doctrine. In the event of another Mumbai-like terrorist attack, there is going to be real pressure on India to mount such an incursion and strike some of the terror camps.

Indian officials said the manner in which Pakistan has carried out work on the fourth reactor, of which there was no trace as late as 2009, suggest a constant supply or uranium and that this could only have been made possible by China. "The cost involved is too high and then, of course, the amount of uranium required. It's too much for Pakistan to achieve without support from China," said a senior government official.

Aarushi case: Whisky bottle prints exonerate us, say Talwars

NEW DELHI: Nupur and Rajesh Talwar contested the CBI's theory that "none other than Talwars" could have murdered their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj and told the Supreme Court the whisky bottle with fingerprints held the key to their innocence.

Nupur accused the CBI of jumping to conclusions and attempting to implicate them in the double murder case without evidence.

In her response to the agency's affidavit, she said, "It is the case of the CBI itself that blood of both the victims was found on the whisky bottle but that fingerprints on the bottle could not be identified. In fact, there are three chance prints which were detected from the bottle, which could not be connected with the petitioner and her husband. This itself is suggestive of outside entry and completely exonerates the petitioner and her husband."

The CBI had filed a closure report before the trial court without naming any accused in the double murder, but had supported the trial judge's March 3 decision to summon the Talwars to face trial. The Talwars have moved Supreme Court against the trial court's order.

Rajinikanth undergoes dialysis, shifted to ICU

CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth's condition worsened on Wednesday with doctors putting him through dialysis at a Chennai hospital, two days after he underwent a procedure to drain fluid accumulated in his lungs. The Tamil superstar was also shifted to the hospital's intensive care unit from the private ward where he was being treated since Saturday.

Doctors said they could not avoid or put off dialysis as the 61-year-old star's kidneys were not functioning normally. This was leading to increased fluid retention in his blood and a decrease in sodium and protein levels in the body.

The cine idol was admitted to hospital after he complained of breathlessness. He was diagnosed and treated for pneumonia and kidney problems. Doctors had removed fluid surrounding his chest that was pressing the lungs, causing breathing difficulty on Monday. He was given oxygen intermittently. Doctors gave him antibiotics and transfused blood.

"We decided to put him through haemodialysis. As of now, we don't know if he would require dialysis for life. We are hoping his kidneys will return to normalcy once his lower respiratory tract infection is cleared," said a doctor treating him.

Doctors have also restricted the entry of visitors. Anxious fans crowding the hospital to learn about Rajini's condition were constantly assured that he was responding well to treatment.

Rajini's fan clubs organized special prayers at temples across the country and provided free food to people.

The actor's family refused to comment.

PM steps up efforts to end deadlock over Lokpal Bill issue

NEW DELHI: Amid the stalemate over Lokpal Bill, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday stepped up efforts to resolve the issue.

Singh, who held discussions with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her political secretary Ahmad Patel, HRD minister Kapil Sibal and finance minister Pranab Mukherjee earlier in the day, held a second round of deliberations with senior ministers this afternoon as activist Anna Hazare, who is sitting on a fast-unto-death, declared 'jail bharo' agitation from April 13.

Minority affairs minister Salman Khurshid, Sibal, Mukherjee and law minister Veerappa Moily met the Prime Minister at his official residence.

So far, Sibal had been holding discussions with Hazare's emissaries - Swami Agnivesh and Arvind Kejriwal.

Hazare has been on a fast-unto-death since Monday demanding formation of a joint committee to draft an effective Lokpal Bill.

Sibal had held two rounds of talks with Agnivesh and Kejriwal but differences persist on the issue of the chairmanship of the committee being given to a civil society member and an official notification being issued in this regard.

Sonia meets PM, discusses Lokpal Bill

Congress President Sonia Gandhi today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and discussed the stalemate on the issue of an effective Lokpal Bill for which Gandhian Anna Hazare has launched a campaign.

Ministers Pranab Mukherjee and Kapil Sibal, Political Secretary to Congress President Ahmed Patel and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair were also present at the meeting, party sources said.

The meeting comes a day after Gandhi appealed to Hazare to end his fast, which entered the fourth day today, assuring him that his views would receive the government's full attention.

Stepping up his anti-corruption campaign, Hazare yesterday brushed aside Gandhi's appeal to him to withdraw his hunger strike as the government initiated talks on formation of a joint committee to draft an effective Lokpal Bill but there was no consensus on two crucial aspects.

A meeting of Sibal with activists Swami Agnivesh and Arvind Kejriwal scheduled this morning did not take place as both sides said they were waiting for each other. The meeting is now scheduled at 6 PM.

Now, Shayan, if you recall, was one of the four eyewitnesses who turned hostile in the Jessica Lall murder case in 1999. He was later arrested in the year 2006 when he was trying to leave the country with his then wife Peeya Roychowdhury.
