Akshay Kumar should get national award – Dimple Kapadia

Mumbai, Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia is certain that her son-in-law, actor Akshay Kumar, who has already been conferred a Padma Shri award, deserves a national award too because she believes that he is a great entertainer.

“I think he (Akshay Kumar) deserves a national award. Nor for any movie as such but he has really grown as an actor and he is excellent in comedy beside that he is an allrounder, and most importantly he is a great entertainer,” she told reporters at a cafe where she came to promote her upcoming film “Tum Milo Toh Sahi” here Monday.

Dimple maintains that getting award is a matter of luck.

“Honestly speaking, awards are just luck. Some give brilliant performances but they never get awarded and someone else gets it. I don’t think an award is really important. Someone can perform far brilliant than you but you get the award, so it’s not big deal,” she said.

Dimple is sharing screen space with Akshay in director Nikhil Advani’s “Patiala House” where he is again playing a role of a Sardar after Anees Bazmee’s “Singh is Kinng” (2008).

Long 16 years after “Krantiveer” in 1994, Dimple is paired opposite actor Nana Patekar in Kabir Sadanand’s “Tum Milo Toh Sahi” where they play lovers in their 50s.

“It was a fantastic experience again working with Nana Patekar. We share a student-teacher relationship where I am a student. I learnt a lot from him. With every film he has given me something,” said Dimple.

“The climax of the film is completely dedicated to him and Kabir. The way they made me see it and the way they made me do it… it’s completely their baby. I just went and did what they wanted me to do. It’s great to get such a co-star and that’s what Nana is. He gives you a lot,” she added

Releasing Friday, “Tum Milo Toh Sahi” weaves together lives of three couples who connect with one another through a series of touching and funny moments. Dimple essays a Parsi woman running an old Irani cafe in the film.

Akshay Kumar loves collecting Bollywood posters

New Delhi, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has a secret hobby of collecting posters of old Bollywood movies and actors and his fans will get to see his collection in a scene in his forthcoming movie “Action Replayy”.

“Akshay has been collecting these posters for years and has built himself a sizeable collection,” said a source close to the actor.

In “Action Replayy’, Akshay plays a coffee house owner and when the set was being planned, director Vipul Shah mentioned that he wanted it to be a Bollywood themed cafe.

While the crew searched for suitable posters in the market, they managed only a few cheesy ones. That’s when Akshay came to their rescue.

“Yes, it’s true that I have lent some posters to Vipul because for the longest time, they couldn’t source original ones,” said Akshay.

Shah said: “We were not getting good posters and the problem kept cropping up in production meetings. We had absolutely no clue that Akshay had such a collection. It was a pleasant surprise.”

“Action Replayy” also features Aishwarya Rai.

Akshay Kumar injures Katrina Kaif on the sets of ‘Tees Maar Khan’

Katrina Kaif has not been having a very healthy time it seems. Not long back, she passes out at the sets of a film. But what happened on the sets of Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’ this time was very unexpected. During the shoot of a romantic and sexy song sequence, as Katrina moved towards her onscreen co-star Akshay Kumar, the actor’s jaw hit Katrina’s head and she started to bleed. Katrina was so scared to see the sight of blood that she started feeling giddy. Her misery turned into sobs when Akshay scared her saying that she would now need a minimum of 4 stitches on her head.

However, when a scared Katrina started to cry, Akshay laughingly said that he was pulling her leg. The injury was a minor one and the shooting was soon resumed.

Why go to Hollywood when it’s coming to Bollywood: Akshay Kumar

Mumbai, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who recently shared screen space with international stars Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh in “Kambakkht Ishq”, says he has no plans of heading to Hollywood.

“Why go to Hollywood when Hollywood is coming to Bollywood? I’m happy doing my work here as of now,” Akshay told IANS.

Now that “Kambakkht Ishq” has registered good profits at the box office, Akshay is looking forward to his other films that include “Blue”, “De Dana Dan” and “Action Replay”.

Akshay Kumar Runs On The Middle Of London Lane!

Akshay Kumar, who is busy shooting for Sajid Khan's House Full, took up his fitness trainer and driver's challenge to perform a stunt in real.

The bet was that Akshay run right in the middle of the busy traffic of London lane. Thus apna Khiladi Kumar started running. A unit member said, "We all started hooting and shouting that he will not be able to do it. The public would block his way." But ironed will Akshay would have none of it as he dodged through the zooming traffic in full speed.

"Watching Akshay run, his fans started following him. They wanted to know if he is the real Akshay Kumar. Some who recognised Akshay even invited him for lunch," said the unit member. Akshay won the challenge hands down. Now that does not come as a surprise, does it?

Akshay raring to get back with restrained act in 'Tasveer...'

Mumbai, Mar 22 (PTI) Unnerved by the failure of his last release 'Chandni Chowk to China', Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar today said he was confident that his forthcoming super natural film 'Tasveer 8x10',directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, will do well.

"I did Nagesh's film because I liked the story and went by the director's instinct. I am confident it will do well," Akshay, who has taken a break from comedies to feature in thrillers in 2009, told reporters here.

The actor said he was used to 'over the top' performances in his last few films but Nagesh wanted him to be restrained.

"I got irritated for the first four days of our schedule but on the fifth day we understood each other and I decided to go by the director's vision," he said adding that this was the reason for rumours surfacing about him walking off the sets after fighting with the director.

"I would never do that with any director. I am satisfied with the end result and happy that I followed his vision." Asked about the huge money riding on his shoulders, Akshay, whose upcoming films in 2009 includes big budget movies like 'Blue', 'Kambhakt Ishq', 'Houseful' and 'De Dhana Dhan' among others, said, producers have earned money through his films from 2006-08.

'Tasveer 8x10', that releases on April 3, is the last release before the producers bodies' ban on screening films in multiplexes comes into effect from April 4. PTI

Kylie has broken Bollywood cost record

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has become the highest-paid foreign celebrity in Bollywood history.

The Love at First Sight singer, who appears as herself and sings a dance number for film called Blue with actor Akshay Kumar, was paid a staggering amount of more than USD 1 million, say reports.

"My overriding memory is the warmth and professionalism of people. I arrived as a stranger but left considering myself as family," said Minogue.

"Kylie couldn't have been more perfect. Her beautiful voice and bubbly personality were adored by so many. She is the perfect diva," said Kumar.

However, it's not the first time Kylie has bagged a huge fee for a cameo role. Last year the star pocketed a reported USD 2.1 million for a 45-minute set in Dubai.

Big B felicitated at FICCI-IIFA awards ceremony

Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was among the top ten bollywood personalities to be felicitated with the first FICCI-IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards for the 'Most Powerful Entertainers of the decade'.

The awards function which was held here last night to commemorate the 10th anniversary of FICCI-FRAMES and IIFA saw Bachchan and actresses - Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty - collecting their trophies while the other winners - Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan - did not make it.

The evening also witnessed the presentation of the FICCI-USIBC (US-India Business Council) Award to hollywood actor and leading social activist Danny Glover and to Congressman John Lewis.

Speaking on the occasion, Bachchan recalled that he had completed 40 years in the showbiz on February 5.

"I am happy at being a part of the film industry which is a symbol of national integration," he said.

When Danny referred to Bachchan as the greatest actor in the world, an apparently embarrassed Big B thanked him for the compliment.

Later in his blog, Bachchan wrote if there was space beneath his chair, he would have disappeared in there. PTI
